Dr. John Williams

Dr John Williams is a globally recognized expert in bioplastics and CTO at Aquapak, where he has led the ten-year research and development of Hydropol, a unique new polymer which is soluble and non-toxic to marine life and can be used as an alternative to conventional plastic in a wide variety of applications.

John is a Chartered Chemist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, with a PhD in Polymer Chemistry. In a career spanning thirty years, he started in technical roles in the polymer industry with Henkel GmBH, before moving on to Mydrin (which became part of Total). He is currently Sustainability Ambassador for the Institute of Directors and has also held several NGO and advisory positions, including Head of Biomaterials at the National Non-Food Crops Centre (NNFCC), a Task Force Member of the Industrial Biotech Leadership Form, and advisor to BEIS and Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Prior to that, he was a founding member and Technical Director at the Bio-Based and Biodegradable Industries Association (BBIA).
